This was the third and final illustration for Depthcore XLV. This piece was just an experiment, using a few of the techniques I have been developing recently, to create a futuristic stag skull.

This illustration was for Depthcore XLV and the theme was Primal. The first thing that came to mind was the old VIsionaries cartoon that used to run back in the 80's. This is my reboot of the leader of the good guys Leoric

"Singularity is a personal piece exploring the concept of the Singularity, which has been gaining momentum in the fields of Physics and Quantum Mechanics.
In it's simplest form it is the moment when super intelligent technology will exceed our organic capacities.
Prof. Michio Kaku states that when this happens the only course mankind can take is to become part of the machine."

Neuro Genesis- The birth of humankind in a post-organic world.
This piece started out as an experiment to remix & re-explore elements I had previously illustrated and combine them with fresh new components. One thing led to another and before I knew it I was working around the theme of humans leaving their bodies and engaging fully into technology.
It is certainly a possibility that as technology progresses at a ferocious speed, these machines we call our bodies could become a hinderance, and maybe we will develop the necessary know-how in order to leap into other machines of a binary nature, leaving our organic selves behind.

I was invited to take part in this years Desktopography exhibition.
Instead of exploring the usual themes of nature that is associated with the project, I wanted to explore the word topography and what it would mean on a distant moon.
My submissions have been accused of not being 'too outdoorsy' but I guess that is just a matter of where the doors are.
To view all the other submissions and get your hands on free wallpapers, please go check out the official site: desktopography.net
I hope you enjoy my take on this amazing project.

So the concept for this piece was a depiction of a bank of stored memories, various assortments of nonsense clumped together with each memory contained within its very own cell. The shape of each cell would be echoed throughout the piece until there was a semi-complete memory archive.
The 'Sorter' (floating green guy at the top) is responsible for selected the desired memory and feeding that back into the system and affecting the person this archive belongs to.
I imagine there to be like a zillion other of these banks, a vast vault of chaos and half-ponderings, way to many to possibly draw.

Rediscovery is an illustration that will be included in a forthcoming book.
I wanted to explore the myths and possibilities that humankind is far more connected to the cosmos than we could possibly imagine. I tried to use symbols and obscure motifs to ignite thoughts in the awakened mind.
For example, the staff that the giant robot is carrying is of Ancient Egyptian origin and must never touch the floor as it symbolises mankind as a spiritual energy that is temporarily rooted to the Earth. There are many more within the piece.
Rediscovery is an early voyage of mine to try and capture the relationship between high technology and pre-ancient enlightenment.

Dr. Oracle, the vaudevillian purveyor of thoughts and showmanship.
After being struck off for 'miss-use of amputation methods' the good Doctor re-marketed himself as the top billed act in a travelling oddity show. The crowds gathered en masse to watch his spectacular show thwart with colours, danger and a healthy dose of optimism.
But it was not the daring caped swashbucklers, nor the Skeletal Dance Troop that the crowds were excited about, it was the great man himself.
The grand finale of trance like predictions, anecdotes and half-priced prescriptions for his handmade "Life Elixir" where enough to regularly start stampedes and one or two top hats have been lost amidst the ruckus.

With the construction of the great Neomyth Pyramid, civilization had begun it's first steps to cleansing it's soul after it had been tainted by the wide scale abuse of technology, power and greed. The construction was undertaken in an effort to establish a sense of purpose beyond the material, to again connect with themselves and the world they inhabit. Nobody could have guessed that the symbol of hope, honesty and purpose would resonate throughout the known world. The circle would be complete once again.

Not being content with digging the worlds first underwater tunnel, building the worlds biggest ship or dragging England's sorry ass into the steam age with his Great Western rail network, Isambard Kingdom Brunel set his sights on a much grander target. Ever the public figure of ridicule, his latest fascination would shock even his loyalist of admirers, for he was to develop the worlds first ever time machine.
In true Victorian style he fashioned an awe inspiring machine out of copper and bits of lead piping. Nobody expected him to succeed, but they thought that about all of his endeavours. For years he locked himself away, a secluded genius working feverishly on the maths and physics to prove his doubters wrong.
It was on a cold Wednesday morning as the smog from the big smoke glowed an eerie orange, when an old acquaintance of Mr. Brunel's decided to check on his progress. But after a thorough inspection of his abode, the man everybody was laughing at was nowhere to be found.
All that remained was a note on a table next to his coughing and spluttering machine. It read:
"I have gone to seek new inspiration from the year 3012. I will be back in due course to once again make you eat humble pie"
This Typeface is a homage to a great man who helped invent the modern world for us all. I was inspired by classic Victorian typefaces but aimed to give it a modern twist. If you like it then I have the Open Type file that you can have to do with as you wish. This is completely free of charge, just simply email me: hello[at]sonarfates.com.

Sonar Fates was asked by Midlands based electronic music producer Doc. Pepperspray to design his latest EP sleeve. The brief pretty much pushed me down a dark angle which I absolutely loved.
The final design was painted inside of photoshop and treated to a few photo textures I had taken on a recent trip to the second city.

"The vis insita, or innate force of matter, is a power of resisting by which every body, as much as in it lies, endeavours to preserve its present state, whether it be of rest or of moving uniformly forward in a straight line"

The concept I came up with was one on a nano scale. I really fell in love with the idea that all of this minute particles, cells, atoms and quarks were all independent of, yet constrained to the mass of the structure. Thus when the structure shifted direction all of this micro worlds would be smashed into one another by the force of gravity.
These are my representations of those nano worlds.
